I remember buying the wood for my house and I remember every last nail I drove into the fucking thing and I remember the times I missed and hammered my thumb into the walls and the rafters and the floors. I remember installing windows, doors, cabinets. I remember ordering pizza in on those late nights where I’d sit in the saw dust and enjoy the smells and feel so proud. I remember the plastic sticking to my feet when I painted each room and I remember replacing the plastic with carpet and the plywood with shingles and siding. I remember the days it took to put in plumbing but I remember it being well worth the wait when I’d shower off the dirt on my body after laying sod in the yard. I remember the worms in the flower bed as I destroyed their home to make mine more comfortable and I remember how the breeze felt the day I watched it all fall down.
